Full Time Rounds 15 & 16
On Saturday Sean Coote became the first BFC player to play 350 Senior games, i.e. all games in Senior section of the club. This is a crowning achievement for someone who started his Senior career back in 2001, has been a Club Champion in 2006, the winner of multiple premierships and an inspiration to those who have played with him over the journey. Interesting fact, there were a number of players in the Reserves team who played alongside Cootey on Saturday who weren’t born when Cootey played his first Senior game. Incredible!
Post game Cootey was able to celebrate with family, teammates and friends. It was a wonderful gesture by the Williamstown players who lined up to pay tribute along with our players and officials.
No joy on the park with Willy running out comprehensive winners. Best for us were Seb Stewart, Cooper Ryan, Riley Whitehouse, Sean Coote, Dion Hall-McNish and Ryan Young. Special mention to Craig Phillips who donned the BFC jumper for the first time in many years to play alongside his son Oskar. In his day Craig was quite a player. It’s probably fair to say he has lost a yard or two of pace over the years, but good on him for having a crack! Wonder what Oskar thought???
The Senior Men found the going equally treacherous, only finding their rhythm late in the game. Best players included Charlie Wilce, Damien Johns, Callum Heath, Jack Challands, Luka Pecer and Petar Pecer. Special mention to Angus Bowd who played his first Senior game. Well done Angus.
Scoring has been a major issue for the Senior Women all season and Saturday’s game was no different against a very good Old Geelong team, who will no doubt have a strong say in the outcome of the premiership in this division. Our best were Liv Stockdale, Casa Newman, Taylah Tysoe, Niamh Fitzgerald, Felicity Hilford and Georgia Tysoe. Congratulations to Felicity Hilford who made her Senior debut.
The Women’s Reserves battled hard all game going down by just a goal. For many of these girls this year will be a great learning experience. You could never question their commitment and to finish the season with a 7/9 record is a credit to them. Best players were Remy Barker, Maya Buhl, Ally Gilchrist, Lauren Howlett, Jasmin Bendal and Amy Watkins.
It was a tale of two cities for the U19s, the Prem team struggling against Old Xavs, while the Div 4 were comfortable winners against Old Melbourne High. Best for the Prem team were Carlos Reynolds, Aiden McCarthy, Mitchell Davidson, James Appel, Cooper Dickson, William Snowden, while Charles Galvin, Samuel Lewis, Joshua Young, Mason Cartwright, George Lewis, Ayden Tezay were the best for the Two’s.
Go Sharks!
