FULL TIME RD 18 & FINALS
It was a mixture of highs and lows for our 3 remaining Senior teams on the weekend.  We also had some individual milestones and a Semi-Final win.
It really has been a tough season for our Senior Men’s team. A combination of crippling injuries and overseas travel has put unforeseen pressure on the whole squad. Try as we did to stay competitive, it became a bridge too far in the latter part of the season.

Back in Round 2 the Seniors defeated Old Haileybury by 43 points.  Old Haileybury went on to top the ladder at the end of the home and away rounds with an impressive 160.41 percentage. No doomsdayer could have predicted the subsequent loss of Premiership players, Dragons players, Rep players and a key forward who kicked 7 goals that day. But that’s what happened.

So, Saturdays game carried a level of importance for the club to retain Premier B status and try as our boys did, we fell short, despite hitting the lead early in the final quarter against Old Trinity. It came down to percentage and unfortunately Old Grammarians nudged us out by a mere 1.99%. Consequently, the Senior Men and Reserves will be playing in the VAFA Premier C comp next season. Time to re-group, unshackle those injuries and set up for a big pre-season.

Special mention to Alex Ward who made his Senior debut on Saturday. Alex has had a tremendous season in the U19s Prem and has been knocking on the door for some time.

We also had a couple of milestones - Campbell Tedde played his 100th Senior section game and evergreen Dougie Ensor played his 350th. Doug had a busy weekend as Team Manager for his Daughter Emily’s U13 Div 1 Girls team who won their Grand Final on Sunday.
We’ll talk a bit more about Campbell in the next few days, however it worth recognising the incredible 185 junior games he has played for the club as well, a total of 285 club games.

Congratulations Dougie and Campbell.

Which takes us to Sunday and the U19s Div 4 teams’ great Semi-final win over De La at Trevor Barker. These guys have taken on all before them this season, including a challenging schedule, but have managed to hang in there. They will play St Marys on Saturday (11.40) at Waverley Oval for a GF berth. Wow!

In a team that had many contributors on Sunday, Harvey Backman was a standout, dominating the midfield. Other good players included Ben Newman-Morris, Joshua Mathews, Cooper Dickson, Presley Evans and Sam Keating.
Good luck on Saturday!
