Support Off Leash Dogs Area at Banksia

Taking care of our playing surface to avoid unnecessary injuries.

To the broad Sharks Community:

We would like your SUPPORT FOR AN OFF-LEASH DOG AREA  AT BANKSIA RESERVE

Bayside City Council is undertaking community consultation about a proposed off-leash dog area next to the Banksia Reserve oval at the corner of Griffiths Street and Tramway Parade.

The 12-month trial is proposed to protect and improve the condition of the Banksia Reserve oval (before and during resurfacing) and reduce injury impacts to Beaumaris community football and cricket club participants and casual users.

The off-leash dog area will be fenced with dog bag dispensers, bins, water and granitic sand.

The Beaumaris Football Club, Beaumaris Cricket Club and Beaumaris Lawn Tennis Club support the trial and a future permanent off-leash dog area.

The community consultation period is being conducted between 26 August and 16 September 2024. More information can be found on the Council website.

Feedback can be provided directly to the Project Landscape Architect, Robert Egerton, via email at regerton@bayside.vic.gov.au or phone on 03 9599 4357. Could you please email your support of this initiative before 16 September.

Here’s some wording if you need as a guide:

"As a local Bayside resident, I fully support the proposal for a permanent off-leash dog area adjacent to Banksia Reserve. This is an excellent solution to both the passive and active use of this space and accommodates the broad needs of the community. I recommend the proposed off-leash area is made larger to be comparable to the off-leash oval area currently available."
