Congratulations to BFC player Josh Dolan who was last night selected at pick 31 by the Western Bulldogs in the AFL National Draft.
Josh was an integral part of the U18 Vic Metro team, which defeated Vic Country back in July. In that game Josh kicked 2 vital goals, which Vic Metro landed by just the one point.
In 2023, Josh made his BFC Senior debut against St Bedes in Round 11, pictured here with his family after being presented with his debut jumper from 3-time Club Champion Matt Petering.
Unfortunately, injury prevented Josh from playing in the Premiership winning Dragons side this year, although he was a key player in the 2023 Dragons premiership team as an underage player.
Josh has fulfilled the potential many close observers saw in him from his junior days at the club. In 2022, Josh played a key role in the BFC U16s Div 1 Premiership winning team, Josh winning the Medal for ‘Best on Ground’ in the Grand Final. (pictured)
A delighted BFC Senior Coach Josh Bourke added his thoughts, “We’re incredibly pleased to see Josh realise his dream of reaching the AFL, he’s conduct and character in his time with Beaumaris FC has been outstanding. When Josh missed on the Dragons preseason as a 17 yr old, the BFC supported him and included him in our Senior team preseason and training. The rest as they say is history, his performance against the eventual Premiers St Bernards that season was eye catching, resulting in them putting a tag on him after the break. A 17 yr old dominating a game of VAFA Premier B footy is no small feat. While Josh didn’t have the opportunity to play with Beaumaris in 2024, we know he’s been well developed and supported by his Dragons and School coaches and we wish him all the best for the future. We will certain keep a close eye on him and remember….once a shark always a shark.”
Well done Josh, all the best for the future at the Bulldogs. Your hard work and resilience has paid off.
Its been a good year for the Dolan family, Josh’s sister Georgia having played in the U13 Division 1 Girls Grand Final winning team for the Sharks.
Go Sharks!
